David Smith Artist Talk & Opening Reception

During his sabbatical, Art Department faculty David Smith focused on developing glazes and firing schedules for low-fire wood firings (around 2,000° F), which is a relatively un-explored process in the world of contemporary ceramics and pottery. He also enjoys making monsters. This sabbatical work strikes a unique balance between technical mastery and creative play, uniting the methodical process of firing and testing while creating sculptures akin to Frankenstein’s monster. As the saying goes: “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.” His artist talk and opening reception are 5:30 p.m. Thursday, September 10, in Fulton Hall's University Gallery.
