DESCRIPTION:During his sabbatical\, Art Department faculty David Smith focused on developing glazes and firing schedules for low-fire wood firings (around 2\,000° F)\, which is a relatively un-explored process in the world of contemporary ceramics and pottery. He also enjoys making monsters. This sabbatical work strikes a unique balance between technical mastery and creative play\, uniting the methodical process of firing and testing while creating sculptures akin to Frankenstein’s monster.
