Learn how to assess the condition of, restore, and sharpen your traditional hand tools in CBMM’s Tool Sharpening 101 with Vessel Conservation Manager Sam Hilgartner. Our sharpening class will focus on chisels and plane irons. Participants are encouraged to bring in their tools for direction on how to proceed in restoring them. Shipwrights today still make frequent use of hand tools, and often, older restored tools. The use of traditional had tools is not for the “old-timey” aesthetic, but for their unrivaled practicality in certain applications. Please join us this summer for a crash course on tool sharpening. Tool Sharpening 101 Date/Time: Friday, Aug. 21, 9am-3pm Location: CBMM’s Education Workshop Cost: $150, with a 20% discount for CBMM members Learn more…
