In this course led by CBMM guest instructor Steve Garrand at Richardson Maritime Museum in Cambridge, Md., on the weekend of July 18-19, we will record the dimensions and shape of a small skipjack or bateau called Peregrine. Our measurements can then be transferred into a table of offsets to be used to draw a set of lines for construction and archival purposes. Recording lines is one way of learning drafting where rather than coming to understand a vessel design through abstract principles, our lines are developed directly from an actual vessel. You will leave knowing how to define water lines, buttock lines, station lines, the base line, forward and aft perpendiculars, diagonals, shearline, profile view, half breadth view, plan view, and basic principles of vessel documentation.
