On October 12, 1986, 40 years ago to the date of this lecture, the Reagan-Gorbachev Summit in Reykjavik, Iceland, ended, ushering in the end of the Cold War. What was thought to be an inconsequential meeting going in turned into a major worldwide historical turning point that reshaped geopolitical dynamics and roles that are felt to this day. Ambassador Ken Adelman was in the room the entire time and provides his firsthand account of the meeting that took place on what many considered the brink of war 7 p.m. Monday, October 12, in the Commons, Worcester Room.
